At WeOutside, your night is yours. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the WeOutside app and website (the "Service"), how we use and share it, and the choices and rights you have. By using the Service, you agree to this Policy. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
01 Overview
WeOutside is a nightlife discovery platform for the Dallas–Fort Worth area. To show you live venue heat, nearby events, and a real-time community feed, we collect a limited amount of information — some you give us, some collected automatically, and some you choose to share with the community. We do not sell your personal information.
02 Information We Collect
Information you provide
- Account information. When you sign up, we collect the identifier you use to authenticate — a phone number, an email address, or a Google sign-in (which shares your name and email with us) — so we can create and secure your account.
- Profile information. Your display name and, optionally, a profile photo.
- Content you create. Event flyers, venue reports and "heat" contributions, feed posts, comments, reactions, saved venues, and squad/social activity.
- Communications. Messages you send us (for example, support or partnership requests) and their contents.
Information collected automatically
- Location information — see Section 03.
- Device & technical data. Device type and model, operating system, app version, language, general settings, and diagnostic or crash data used to keep the Service running.
- Usage data. How you interact with the Service — venues viewed, features used, and similar activity — used to operate and improve it.
- Push notification tokens. A device token so we can deliver notifications you've enabled.
03 Location Information
Location is core to WeOutside. With your permission, we use your device's location while you are using the app to:
- Show nearby venues, heat spots, and events;
- Calculate distances and order results on the map; and
- Make the live map and feed relevant to where you are.
We request foreground ("while in use") location access and ask before turning it on. We do not need or request continuous background location tracking to provide the Service. You can grant or revoke location access at any time in your device settings — though some features won't work without it. On the web, location is requested through your browser's standard location prompt.
We treat precise location as sensitive personal data and process it only with your consent. Where state law gives you the right to limit the use of sensitive personal information, you may exercise it by contacting [email protected].
04 Camera & Photos
With your permission, WeOutside accesses your camera and photo library so you can take or choose images for event flyers and your profile photo. We access these only when you use a feature that needs them, and only to handle the specific images you select or capture. We do not browse, scan, or upload your photo library in the background. You can revoke camera or photo access at any time in your device settings.
05 Push Notifications
If you enable notifications, we may send alerts about heat updates, events, activity on your content, perks, and other happenings around the DFW scene. We use a device push token to deliver them. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.
06 How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and operate the Service — including the live heat map, nearby venues, events, flyers, and community feed;
- Create and secure your account and authenticate you;
- Personalize what you see based on your location and activity;
- Power the levels, XP, badges, and perks systems;
- Send notifications and respond to your requests;
- Keep the Service safe — detecting, preventing, and addressing fraud, abuse, spam, manipulation of heat or feed, and violations of our Terms;
- Analyze usage to fix problems and improve features; and
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.
08 Service Providers
We rely on trusted third parties to run the Service. They may process your information only to provide services to us. These include, for example:
- Cloud hosting, database & authentication (e.g., Supabase) — to store your account and content and keep you signed in;
- Maps & location (e.g., Mapbox) — to render the map and location features;
- Sign-in providers (e.g., Google) — to let you authenticate;
- Push-notification delivery — to send the alerts you've enabled; and
- Analytics & diagnostics — to keep the Service stable and improve it.
Each provider has its own privacy practices. We encourage you to review the policies of any third-party sign-in or service you use.
09 Public & Shared Content
WeOutside is a community. Your display name, profile photo, level/title, flyers, venue reports, feed posts, comments, and reactions may be visible to other users of the Service. Please be thoughtful about what you share — content you post publicly can be seen, saved, or re-shared by others, and may remain visible to people who have interacted with it even after you delete it. Do not share information you want to keep private, and do not post others' information without their consent.
10 Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. After you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain data to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud or abuse, or enforce our agreements. Content you shared publicly may persist where others have interacted with it.
11 Security
We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect your information — including encryption of data in transit and access controls on our systems and our providers' systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please help protect your account by keeping your sign-in method secure and notifying us of any suspected unauthorized access.
12 Your Choices & Rights
You have meaningful control over your information:
- Access & update. View and edit your profile and content in the app.
- Permissions. Grant or revoke location, camera, and photo access anytime in your device settings.
- Notifications. Turn push notifications on or off in your device settings.
- Delete content. Remove flyers, posts, comments, and other content you've created.
- Delete your account. Request account deletion in the app or by emailing us.
- Data requests. Ask us to access, correct, delete, or receive a portable copy of your personal information by emailing [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before acting.
13 U.S. State Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live (for example, Texas, California, and other U.S. states with privacy laws), you may have rights to know what personal information we collect, to access or delete it, to correct it, to obtain a portable copy, and to not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. Because we do not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising, there is no such activity to opt out of. To exercise your rights, contact [email protected]. You may use an authorized agent where the law allows, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising any right.
14 Children's Privacy
WeOutside is intended for adults and is not directed to anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us information, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.
15 International Users
WeOutside is operated from the United States and intended for use in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. If you access the Service from outside the U.S., your information will be processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your location. By using the Service, you consent to this processing.
16 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, provide additional notice through the Service. Your continued use after changes take effect means you accept the updated Policy.
